Apple Watch

I am thinking about buying an Apple Watch Series 3 with GPS. I have tried reading up on capabilities of the watch with and without Cellular. The watch without cellular is $100 cheaper, so I would opt for that one, but I wanted to make sure I could still do everything I needed. With the Series 3 GPS only, can I still make calls, send texts, get notifications, etc. or do I need cellular to do those things? Thanks!
