Read/unread problem w/ipad pro and ios 13

Recently my iPad Pro has changed hundreds of read emails back to unread. I edit, select all, then mark as read and things seem fine for a while then a few days later they will charge back to unread.

Today I received an email, clicked on it to read it. After exiting the message and mail app, it was continuing to show as unread.

I’m not certain, but this problem may have occurred on my iPhone 7 with the same iOS version.

If this is a POP account, it is really designed to only be accessed by a single email client, i.e. just the iPhone or just the iPad. When you work with both, and especially if you leave the mail on the server, it can confuse what has been read or not read on each device. I'm not sure how AOL works any more, but I've not seen problems with other mail accounts with iOS 13. You may wish to reach out to Verizon to see what they may have to say about the subject, since they are managing the accounts.

Well, POP account or not, it has worked just fine for years. Now all of a sudden my iPad, and possibly my iPhone, can’t keep track of what has been read and what has not. In fact, I can go to bed with all emails showing as “read” and wake up in the morning with over two hundred of those emails now showing as “unread”. I’d be more inclined to blame one of the recent iOS updates for this problem. Apple seems to have a good track record for fixing two problems and creating one new one!
