New Macbook Pro not turning on

Got a new Macbook Pro with touch bar just before COVID-19 lock down - it's less than a week old. Today it won't turn on. It shows the apple icon on the screen and a progress bar and then goes blank.

I've manage to open recovery assistant and thought I would just erase the disk as it's new but it says

"couldn't open device. :(-69877)"

Please help - I can't get help from the shop as they are locked down.

problem that we are in NZ in major lock down - like nothing here is working - no postal services or anything. Was a scramble to get it the day of lockdown starting - was a display model as literally every laptop was sold in every shop in our city and I suspect they have just mucked up when they set it up.

Quick and easy mate—

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

Try resetting the  SMC  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

If no progress, carry on...

See if it will allow you to boot to Internet Recovery—requires Network connection.

Boot into Recovery (Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities>  Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD (and the "Macintosh HD-Data" volume as well if Catalina) If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.

If necessary

I would definitely return it for one that works, You have 14 days from date of purchase for a full refund or exchange.

Get in direct contact with Apple—to make arrangements, it can all be done through the mail/shipping.

Call (800) MY–APPLE (800–692–7753)

tried one and two - no joy.

Tried internet recovery - but when I get in their doesn't show me the mac OSUtilities - could only find the option of erasing and then got the message as you see above. It doesn't seem to recognise anything!

I am trying the support guys online so fingers crossed.

I think everything was so crazy here and it was set up as a demo and they said they were reconfiguring and putting the proper OS on and I think they have just done it wrong.
