Whenever I open a document in pages it duplicates the document and opens the copy. Ho2 do I stop that?
It opens duplicate documents no matter which device I open them with, Mac, iPad, iPhone does not matter. These are not collaborations with other users, just me.

If you're opening them on other devices, that means these are being used with iCloud.
On the iCloud website from a browser, locate these same documents from iCloud Drive: Use iCloud Drive with Pages on Mac
If they duplicate, try closing the document and deleting the duplicate, then opening again to see if the deleting syncs.
Also, if possible, try opening the documents on another network to see if the same thing happens.
