I am getting the folder with a question mark, when i try recovery no HD comes up, I have tried resetting the PRAM and that worked once, this issue has been on again off again for 2 months now, after a couple days it usually comes back to life. Any ideas how to fix this?
I also tried a new SSD and that had the same issue, so it's not the drive itself. Any ideas?

If you can't boot into recovery, it sounds like a hardware problem. Have you tried running Apple Diagnostics?

yes it shows hard drive problem so replaced the hard drive and now I have the same issue.
I only replaced the SSD myself. Did not replaced the cable.
I'm not very savvy on the fixing hardware but you can get the cable and good advice about which one you need from OWC:
They also have tear down instructions if you need it.
