If you didn't empty the Trash then you can just drag it out. If you also emptied the Trash you can use Time Machine to restore it. Even if you didn't keep a Time Machine backup disk connected you may be able to use Time Machine Snapshots:

Deleted from where? It's part of the system so the actual Desktop folder can't be deleted.
Did you remove it from the sidebar in the Finder? If so just drag it back into the sidebar.
Or make sure the Finder's Sidebar preferences has the Desktop checkbox checked:
Thank you, it was a folder I created on the desktop to hold a variety of docs in a group. It’s not in the trash bin, there’s only 1 doc that I use regularly and I’ve found that - just can’t remember what else was in there!
Im not even sure how I managed to delete it! Not the end of the world - as I say I’ve found the more important document. Thanks for your help
You could be right about that. I took it as a folder on the Desktop, rather the Desktop folder itself. We shall see...
