I leave my iMac on and after sometime the screen turns off. I know how to adjust it.
How / is the iMac automatically goes to Sleep mode ?

Except : "Put hard disks to sleep when possible : ...
Put the computer’s hard disk to sleep whenever it’s inactive."
This without my preferences ...
You're welcome.
Uncheck "Prevent computer from sleeping…". It will then sleep at the time the display is set to turn off.

Sys Prefs>Energy Saver. :)
FWIW, the way the preferences are set in the screen shot will prevent a Mac from sleeping. Only the display would turn off.
