Macbook Air speakers have stopped working

Hello,

My Macbook air speakers have stopped working. When I go into system preferences it states that there is "no output devices found." It also doesn't let me adjust the volume on my mac at all just stays in mute permanently.

I have tried resetting 'PRAM' but that doesn't work either.... and safe boot does nothing to help.

HELP PLEASEEEEE
