Deleting iCloud backup on an old device

Now that I have a new iPhone and have traded in the old one, can I go ahead and delete the iCloud backup for the old phone?

Similar questions

iCloud backup from old device I got a new iPhone and was freeing up storage. I came across data from the old phone and was wondering what would happen if I was to delete backup from that phone. Would it affect anything I have on my new/current phone?

If the 2 phones will use the same Apple ID, the next backup of the new phone will overwrite the backup for the old phone.
