Charging Cord for iPhone 11 Pro Won't Let Me Connect to USB Port

I just got an iPhone 11 Pro. It would appear that the charging cord they provided allows me to charge the phone into a wall outlet, but it does not allow me to connect the phone to my computer or to any USB port. Am I correct here? Am I going to have to purchase a cord independently to solve this problem? If so, does that cord have a name?

You’ll probably need one of these. https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/MXLY2AM/A/lightning-to-usb-cable-1m?fnode=97

This is the Apple USB - Lightning cable. It is a fairly common connection, so cables can be found at electronics or department stores.
