Is there a way to change the "delete" shortcut?

Good Morning!

IS THERE A WAY...to change the 'command D' to delete instead of duplicate?!

I have looked through every screen in the keyboard preferences and can't find a way to change the key input to delete a document or app. I couldn't even find where the copy and paste shortcuts were. I tried going to the finder preferences to see if it could be there, but no luck.

Help meeee!

SOMEHOW I figured it out!

SO...I went to system preferences, keyboard, shortcuts, app shortcuts.

There will be two steps.

First:

Click the +

Change Application to finder

Menu title is Duplicate

Keyboard Shortcut is anything, so I put command/ because its something I won't be using

Click Add

Second:

Click the +

Change Application to finder

Menu title is Move to Trash (typing delete won't work, it has to be exact!)

Keyboard Shortcut is commandD (pressing only the delete key will NOT work, sad)

Click Add

The reason I selected finder for the application is because I want to use this only in finder and the desktop to move these to the trash.

I was on the phone with Apple support when I figured this out, so I asked if there was a way I could only use the delete button but we couldn't come up with anything.

I hope this helps!
