Mac book pro virtual esc key not showing anymore ... (aka Resurrect / bring back the virtual esc button)

Hi there ...

I have a 2019 mac book pro and I am on Catalina OS and I am unable to see the virtual "esc" button on the touch bar strip whichever option (Quick Actions / App Controls / Expanded Ctrl Strip / F1,F2 / Spaces) I try to select under the "System Preferences > Keyboard > Touch Bar shows"...

I am aware that it is possible to override "Modifier Keys" to act as Esc button, but I regularly use all those modifier keys for what they stand for... so, that is not an option for me.

Has anyone figured out how to resurrect the virtual "esc" button instead of the work arounds all over the internet??

If yes, I will be eternally grateful for fixing this grand FU by Apple.

Thanks.

MacBook Pro 15”, macOS 10.15
