Purchasing iBooks online as gifts without device

Hi! I’m trying to gift an iBook to a friend of mine who only reads on Apple Books. However, I don’t have an Apple device. Do I have to buy her a .99 cent gift card? That’s so embarrassing if so!

Kindle is owned by Amazon as Books is owned by Apple.

But Amazon created a variety of Kindle apps so that Amazon books can be read on every platform. Apple for some reason has never yet created a Books app for anything but Apple devices. So if you want to sell your books to everybody who runs Windows or Android (75% of the world or so), your only choice is Amazon.

I tried from iTunes. I can get to the book store but when I click on the book it takes me to the book in chrome but then says open in iBooks. There’s no way to buy it on a PC without the app. However, I found a site that said I can use an emulator so I’m going to try that. It’ll be useful for other things as well. :) THANK YOU! For your help!!! Hopefully Apple will get their book app on other platforms like Amazon did with kindle.
