files disappeared from desktop

how can I recover files that were saved to desktop and have since all disappeared?

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.15

Maybe you accidentally saved them elsewhere. You could try searching for them. Also, you could start a new document. Then save it. Then save it again using command-shift-s and look to see where the document is being saved. Maybe the missing ones are there too.
