Has anyone figured out how to keep this running with Catalina? Fujitsu simply says that it won't support it because it's old code, but the scanner still functions well. I'm upgrading from an older iMac to a new Mac Mini with Catalina and I was disappointed to read Fujitsu's advice to buy a new scanner from them.

What I did find in more searching was a third-party solution that's a bit pricey ($90) but keeps the ScanSnap going and not having to lay out a few hundred for a new one -- VueScan www.hamrick.com. There's a lot of testimonials, but you can also try before buying. It works on sheet-feeding duplex documents.

Per my original post, it's a Fujitsu ScanSnap 1500M that's in perfect condition and does really fast duplex scanning. I also have an HP AIO that works fine, but doesn't match the duplex scanning performance. And I do try to avoid filling landfills with otherwise functional gear.

I hear you, my new Epson printer replace one that was 14 years old and still working. Problem with it was, ink was getting hard to find locally.
Seems your only options at this point are ViewScan or keeping the old iMac around in order to use the SnapScan 1500M.
What printer are you using? Perhaps investing in a new all-in-one would be a better investment. FWIW my new Epson Eco-Tank prints and scans from High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, iOS 12 and iOS 13.
Open Image Capture in your App Folder and see if it recognizes your Scanner
