Accessing Mail in Time Machine

For awhile I had the reported problem of Mail crashing when entering Time Machine from Mail. It doesn't do that anymore; I can enter Time Machine but none of the buttons work (Backup Date, Today, etc.) If I access Time Machine from anywhere else, the buttons work. Is there a fix? I'd really like to be able to access my Mail as I was able to do pre-Catalina. Thanks.

Hey Yvonne O Bowers,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that you're unable to access the Backup Date, Today, and other buttons in Time Machine using Mail. I'd be happy to help out.

In this situation, I'd like you to try using Time Machine in safe mode to test:

I tried in Safe Mode. No difference. When on the Apple Mail Inbox screen, I enter Time Machine. The Inbox displays in Time Machine but none of the buttons works. I can't go forward or backward on the arrows next to the screen and I can access the earlier backups on the side bars. Time Machine works fine from the Finder or other places. I just can't access Mail in Time Machine.
