airplay icon not appearing on macbook pro 2019

Does anyone know how to make the airplay icon appear on menu display? I'm having issues using airplay between my iPhone and MacBook Pro running on Catalina.

AirPlay with MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012 I have a MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012, running Catalina. I want to use AirPlay with my iPad. But when I pull it up in Preferences, it won't let me turn AirPlay on. The dropdown won't change from off, there's no other option. Is there something I can do to fix this, or will this just not work on my older laptop?

You cannot AirPlay between these devices.
