Using a currency in the second argument of emonth

Hello, I'm trying to use a formula, with a number formatted as currency, as the second argument in the edate function. Numbers doesn't seem to be able to deal with this. When I change the format in question to number, edate works. Formt that column back to currency and edate fails. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
