can't connect superdrive to macbook air

I have a USB-C Adapter for my Macbook air. I am trying to connect my superdrive by usb to it. I keep getting a message to "connect Apple USB Superdrive to a USB port on this mac. There is not USB port so I am using the USB-C adapter. Please advise.

This can be related to the incompatibility with your USB-C to USB-A adapter.

I ran into this discussion usb accessory needs power on a MacBook pro - Apple Community

Note the reply the was marked as solved in that discussion. It states that the Superdrive will reject any adapter and that one may need a passive USB-C to USB-A adapter. The reply goes on to list the item that may work. Included in that response is also an apple document related to USB-C and the adapters.
