How do you upgrade your Mac by formatting its startup disk?

Normally you don't format a disk just to upgrade. If you want to do a clean install that's different. You could create a USB Bootable Installer to boot ffrom and install to your newly formatted drive…

Or you could install using Internet Recovery.


Make sure you have a Time Machine or other backup before you do anything.
