Go to the System/lApple ID/Overview preference pane and Sign Out of the current account. Then Sign in with your other Apple ID and password.

Thanks for the quick reply!

My main issue was when trying to update native apps it would not accept my alternative icloud account.

I switched back to the original ID and got the updates done, however my question remains, is there a way to eliminate the original apple ID used when first bought the computer and continue with the alternate for future updates?
