Tried to install latest update to iMac, idk year, but now get “error occurred while updating firmware”

After latest update at restart message “error occurred while updating firmware”.

iMac 27", macOS 10.13

Yes. Apple chat tech had me restart while holding down the shift key and i was able to get back to my home screen.
