Lost Apple TV remote/pairing Apple TV w/iPhone

How am I supposed to enter a code on the Apple TV to pair my iPhone with my Apple TV when the whole reason I downloaded the app was because I lost my remote? They’ve never been paired and I have no way of entering a code. (That I know of)

You can’t do that without functional remote on that model.

For the Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation), your options are:

buy a replacement Apple Remote (aluminum);
temporarily borrow an Apple Remote (aluminum) to help set up the app;
restore the Apple TV and connect a wireless keyboard to help set up the app;
restore the Apple TV and connect the CiderTV Mac app to help set up the app.
