Trying to get my screen repaired (my phone is covered under apple 1 year warranty) but when scheduling a repair its charging me the "out of warranty" price which is $150. I have to send it in by mail since there is no apple store in the state I live in.

Apple warranty does not cover damaged screens unless the screen has a manufacturing defect. If your screen is cracked, that’s accidental damage and NOT covered, so yes, you will be charged to replace the screen if it is damaged.
