If you have done an iCloud backup will you still loose all of your data when you reset the 4 digit security code

I put a 4 digit passcode on my sons iPhone. A few years ago and can not remember it. If he does a backup then we rest his device will he still loose everything.

If you have created a backup, you will be able to restore that backup after you have restored the iPhone. See this for help in restoring a phone you have forgotten the passcode to. If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
