I have a MacOS High Sierra. I keep getting a message stating that Apple wants to update my computer. It asks for a password, it this legit?

If the item is email, chances are its not legit.
If you have set settings, in Updates (system preference)
and you are getting a message in there, that's likely safe.
I've never seriously taken email as valid; no amount of spam
will make me choose them as valid.
