will my word files open in catalina?

I wanted to download imovie, but apparently that isn't even compatible with even the previous mac update that i installed this year?

So, i go to upgrade to Catalina, but i've been using microsoft word 2011 and it says it will no longer work. So...what happens to all my word files when i upgrade? Can i not open them? Can i not edit them? Like how does that work?
