I received a call from "Apple" and hey said my iCloud account has been hacked. How do I know this is legitimate?

It is not legitimate. Apple does not make unsolicited phone calls. Also see: Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support
