Ipod is doing my head in

Why can't I sync my ipod in Itunes? It's driving me up the wall. Just spent $420 on the thing but I can't get it to do what it's meant to do.

iPod, iOS 12

Thankyou for your help. I managed to be able to get my music on to the ipod by manually dragging and dropping the music from my library in Itunes on to the device. I did this by accident. That was a great relief. Much appreciated. Thanks again

Yeah I do. Says ipod can't be synced. An unknown error occurred (-54)
