Cannot access Word after Upgrading to Catalina

I can no longer access my word documents after upgrading to Catalina. It's asking me to go to the App Store to upgrade but then I offers me the 365 but I have to pay for the service?? Has anyone expereinced this and what did you do to upgrade without having to repurchase.

Can't use Microsoft Word on my macbook Hi! Now that I have bought a new MacBook Air, my Microsoft products are no longer accessible. I know I can buy a Microsoft 365 subscription to access all of my Word documents that are stored on my computer. Aside from that, what options are there? Are there free options that are Word similar/compatible that I can download without a fee? What does everyone else use? Thanks!

Catalina & Word Having upgraded to Catalina 4 weeks ago and losing access to my free WORD & Excel docs, I have looked for the latest advice but I’m only finding questions from October or November 2019. Is there any updated advice? Has anyone deinstalled and reinstalled their previous OS and found that everything works like it used to? If I were to fork out for Office 2019 or Microsoft 365 or whatever solution there is, would I be able to open my existing word & excel documents? This is a complete mess & I’m not the only victim of this change. thanks in advice of advice

Microsoft Office versions 2016 (updated), Office 2019, and Office 365 all work with Catalina. If you are running an older 32 bit version of Office you need to upgrade Office. Microsoft Office is not free.
