Apparently, you can connect it via USB or Wifi/Wifi Direct. Your MacBook Air 13" has 2 Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) sockets on it.
so.....the socket on the Epson printer is USB-B (always has been), so you'd need a USB-B to USB-C cable or, you could set it up to
print wirelessly (AirPrint ??). You'd also have to download and install any printer/scanner software needed for that printer.
Assuming you've done that......you'd have to choose your printer under system preferences>>Printers and Scanners>>>. Click on the Plus button to add a printer, if you haven't do so already.
On the printer itself, if you wanted to print wirelessly, you'd have to choose that under the printer's menu. Your wifi network should show up, and you'd have to type in, character by character, your wifi password, making no mistakes, and then hit OK, or save. the wifi icon on the printer should show up, or something should light up to show that the wifi on the printer is on. Then on the Mac side of things, you'd choose AirPrint. and then pick something to print, and it should work.
Of course, I don't have the printer's guide or instructions in front of me, or the printer too. I'm just going from memory, having set up printers many times over the years, wirelessly and not.
hope this helps
