Can't pair my Apple Watch to my iPhone 8 Plus!

My Apple Watch can't pair to my iPhone. It says that it needs a update in order to continue the pairing. So I click okay so that it will update. But then it says "Unable to check for update checking for a software update failed because you are not connected to the internet." But i am connected to the internet. Please help!

Reset your Watch by pressing in the crown and side button until you see the Apple logo, then release both. Next, try updating again.
