Upgrading to Catalina

I have MacOS Mojave and want to update to Catalina. Almost all of my apps are 32 bit. I understand that Catalina will not operate 32-bit apps, but if I get 64-bit apps will they work with Mojave? Or do I have to replace all my apps before upgrading my OS?
