Usually the screenshots were saved on my desktop... but now...nothing, nothing happens. I have OS Catalina and I took screenshots in the past days and it worked... but not today.

Desktop is selected. I tried to capture a screenshot then my screenshot appeared in that small thumbnail in the right bottom corner of the screen, after disappearing the thumbnail, nothing happens. I don't have dropbox. I dont really understand what's happening but I appreciate your help..
Try this… while in the Finder, press "command shift G", copy then paste this line into the window that opens…
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screencapture.plist
move the plist file to the trash but do not empty it. Try taking a screen shot again. If that doesn't work, click on the Trash icon in the Dock, right/control click on the file and select "Put Back".
Press "command shift 5", click "Options" and make sure Desktop is still selected. If you have Dropbox installed, check its preferences to make sure it's not intercepting the screen shots.
