Why does my screen have stripes but won’t start up

My Desktop mac is showing stripes but will not boot up. Turned it off and on several times to no avail.

iMac, OS X 10.11

If your screen is showing stripes and will not startup you should take your device to an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
