I have been using Imovie for years, and until I upgraded MacOS to Catalina I started to experience issues. Once I opened Imovie and then opened an existing project. When I tried to use the menu-bar to edit the movie the drop-down were all messed up.
I am using MacBook-Pro 2016.
Can anyone help?

Try going to System Preferences/Accessibility/Display and unchecking both boxes labeled “reduce transparency” and “increase contrast”. See if that solves it.
