Network Shares from router not working after upgrade to Catalina

I have a Linksys router that when you connect external USB disks to it creates SMB shares.

It is basically using some sort of basic SMB share system in unix.

I had no issues prior to the Catalina upgrade but see a number of people are also suffering the same problems without any obvious solutions mentioned yet.

I can map to windows OS systems so SMB is working for but old linux/unix shares done by this old Linksys router look like they are not supported. Very much a problem for me because it is my primary NAS devices and has worked flawlessly until now. All of my other systems still access it without issues.

Since it was working before and what changed was Apple's release of Catalina, Apple should show that it's either a bug (and fix it) or point to the section of the change log where they dropped support for older versions of SMB or the security protocols that support authentication to an SMB server so that Linksys can issue a fix.

I'm also seeing these related issues with SMB support:

Same problem here. New MacPro updated to Catalina this week. Now I can't access usb hard drive hanging off of Linksys EA9500 v1.1 router. Tried userid/password many times.

I also have an lenovo NAS that I have used forever. It no longer works with the Mac Pro. I know the lenovo is an smb-1 device, but it sits in my house for backup. I don't care that it is not a newer version of smb.

Both devices work with Windows 10.
