Catalina: Every picture file I open with preview says "The file is damaged please move to the bin" The files open fine in Topaz and then can be opened in Photos. Just Preview says it is broken and can't open it.

preview and photos crash after opening Since a couple of week I can't open preview or photos anymore. When I open the apps they crash immediately. I have found advises to remove certain files fro my library, but they didn't solve the problem. Does anybody have an Idea what could be causing these apps to crash? My iMac runs OSX Catalina 10.15.7

Getting <filename> is damaged on almost everything after Catalina upgrade I just upgraded from Sierra to Catalina and every DMG I download, gives me an error like this: At first I thought the particular app didn't support Catalina until if happened with a half dozen or so apps I tried to download. And, I get this error when opening .PNG files created from taking a screenshot (shift+command+4). More specifically, if I take a screen shot I can open the .PNG once. If I close the PNG and try to open it again, I get the above error. If I do an xattr -cr on the file in the terminal window, then I can open it, but that's going to be extremely tedious as I use screenshots frequently. Textedit files do not seem to have this problem. I tried logging in as a different user and the behavior is the same. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this? Thanks much for any help anyone can offer!

Catalina has locked all non-PDF files on my Desktop, Pages, and Photos Since the "upgrade," If I try to open a jpg file on my Desktop, Preview gives me an error message like this: The file “imgs325.jpg” couldn’t be opened. If I try to move that file into a desktop folder or even into the Trash, it won't go. The usual plunking noise happens, but the file hasn't moved. Also, I cannot highlight and print an item on my Desktop. Indeed, I cannot open any files in my Desktop folders!--unless they are in PDF. I get an error message. So, I can't get into my working files, not even to print them.

Try this:

go to ~/Library/Containers

and drag the com.apple.preview folder out of there (put in the desktop for example); restart your mac and try again.
