I received the following pop up message but don't know if it is credible nor what I should do with it: "Your system is infected with 3 viruses! Sunday, October 6, 2019 6:16 PM Your Mac is infected with 3 viruses. Our security check found traces of 2 ma......"

It is a phishing scam attempt. Close the browser and do not respond to or click on any links in the popup.
Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support
Pure scam.
There are no legitimate "virus" messages because there are no "viruses" that affect Mac OS. Also it's impossible for anyone to remotely know what's on your Mac, not even Apple.
