I need help with resetting a password for find my phone so I can turn It off

My son broke his phone I’m trying to get a replacement but they won’t submit my claim because I can’t turn off find my phone. He can’t remember his password

I wasvtold It could take several days for a reset

however he is still without a phone

trying to find a solution
