Can't launch 'trash' folder

Hi all

I have googled this problem and not found anything. that works. I can't access my trash can or it's folder. I am told I'm low on disk space so need to delete. I have tried the 'go to' menu and it doesn't;t even recognise the word 'trash'. Please help.
