Where does "Move to All Mail" move messages to?

Where does "Move to All Mail" move messages to?

Sometimes when I receive an email in macOS Mail, the move to button suggests "All Mail":

Where does that action move messages to? After I click it without selecting a specific mailbox, I can't find the message anymore. It doesn't go to Archive. It seems to be effectively deleted without going to Trash. A search for the message in all mailboxes will not find it. Also, I cannot seem to find any documentation for this behavior. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

I am using an iCloud email account on macOS 10.14.6 (18G95).

Try rebuilding the mailbox by selecting it and then going to Mail/Mailbox/Rebuild.

If that doesn't work, try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Reindex messages For El Capitan, try looking in V3. Sierra use V4. High Sierra use V5.

Rebuild which mailbox? Am I supposed to have an "All Mail" mailbox? (I don't have one, that I can tell.)

My original question was, where does "Move to All Mail" move the message to?

You are welcome. Whichever mailbox you were trying to move files from when they got lost. I was trying to suggest possible ways to recover the lost emails.

I don't know the answer to your original question.
