Cross dissolve issue when inserting section titles in a movie

hi there:

I'm editing a movie and putting titles between sections, and putting the titles against a black background.

So I'm splitting the clip where I want the titles, of course. And I want a smooth cross-dissolve in and out of the black backgound.

HOWEVER, what iMovie does is, at the beginning of the title sequence (against a 10 sec black background), is cross dissolve with the other clip (after the black background), rather than the background. So the other clip appears in the cross dissolve and then jerks into (or out of) the black background I've inserted.

The same thing happens in the dissolve at the end of the title sequence. This would seem so basic. Surely, others have had the same issue.

Fine tuning in the precision editor is no help either, becuase its still cross dissolving the clip after or before the black background.

Is there a cure for this bug??

Hi,

I'm not able to replicate your cross dissolve issue in a test project. In your situation it could be a glitch confined to one project. Try creating a new project and see if the issue persists in the new project.

If still no luck, try opening iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if the cross dissolves work properly.
