Mac Mail Trash being emptied too soon?

Hi, can you see from this screenshot that my trash emails are being automatically deleted after only a few days. And yet I have auto delete set to 1 month? It's really annoying as sometimes I want to retrieve an email I've recently deleted from my inbox.

Can you help?

Mail is deleting my trash after 7 days but preferences say Never delete trash I have my preferences for Mac Mail set to delete Trash "Never." But Mail is deleting them after 7 days. Trashed mail Lately on my Mac Mail, when I delete a message it goes into the Trash folder, but whenever I go to delete one or many at once permanently, I have to do it twice. I highlight the messages and hit Delete and they immediately come back and I have to repeat the procedure again. Any thoughts? Running OS High Sierra 10.13.6

I may have solved this myself. I checked my phone and discovered trash was set to be deleted after one week. So I changed to one month.
