Screen on my old imac freezes upon start up.
Try resetting the NVRAM per How to reset NVRAM on your Mac if that does not work, please restart in Safe Mode per Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support. Note a Safe Mode start may take up to 10 minutes. If neither work, please make an appointment at your local Apple Store or independent Apple Authorized Service Provider.
If not, follow the instructions that rk87 posted with your external drive(s) still disconnected.
Tried safe mode. Now imac keeps turning off and back on continuously
i believe the cause of this was when i attemted to download google earth,it filled screen and I couldn’t get it off the screen ( filled screen). Only way was to pull the plug
now this problem immediately after.
Attempt to restart in Safe Mode.

i have tried resetting NVRAM. And it does move the loading bar right to the end,where it now stops
