Operating System Update

We have a 2010 Macbook Pro and we need to update the operating system from OS 10.9.5 to OS10.10 or above (in order to download software to remove photo duplicates). I searched for macOS High Sierra in the App store and clicked on it, but there is no option to download it. Does anyone have any suggestions? We are happy to upgrade to any later version of the operating system, but we can't see how to do that.

MacBook Pros from mid 2010 can upgrade to High Sierra, follow this link, How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Apple Support

Read carefully and go to Section 4 and click on Get MacOS High Sierra.

Upgrading from Mavericks is a big leap so make sure any third party apps you use have updates available so they will continue to operate in the new OS. Also check with the manufacturers of any printers/ scanners etc that drivers and software updates are available so they will also continue to function in High Sierra.

Before upgrading make a full back up of your Mac, make sure Disk Utility > Verify gives you the green tick, if not you will need to boot to your Recovery HD and run Disk Utility > Verify until any errors are resolved.

If your MBP is pre mid 2010 model it will only be able to upgrade to El Capitan, How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support however if the App Store detects your Mac can upgrade further then El Capitan will be refused.
