Do you use iCloud automatic backups? If so, plug the device in for 24 hours, then check the iCloud backup file from a web browser on another device and see if the backup file was updated.

If you’ve never backed up to iCloud or iTunes before this, you cannot backup now since you need a functional display to set either of those up the first time.

It may not be possible.
