mail opens by itself

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. Basically the app mail opens by itself on my desktop or it splits the screen with what I am doing at that moment. It just does it randomly and it is really annoying. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Mail app won't open I'm unable to open my mail app. When I double click, it brings up a prompt that says " Mail quit unexpectedly, click reopen". when I click 'reopen' the same prompt reappears. I went into my Applications file and tried it again in the 'mail folder'. Same result. Any guidance?
