Why must log in to computer if I leave for a few minutes. I do not shut it down..not do I log out. Thank s

Open System Preferences> Security & Privacy> General, (unlock the padlock bottom left of the panel) go to Require password, and select the length of time you would like for the Mac to ask for a password after going to sleep or going to screensaver.

also look in System Preferences> Energy Saver and select a time if any when you want the Mac or Display to go to sleep.
