Recovering old photos

I have an old iPod (4)? that my wife locked because she was trying to get into it to get her old photos off of it. There are no back ups because the PC she used with it is gone now.

So is there a way I could literally mail the device to Apple to get those files off of it?

P.S. The power button doesn't work so there's no way to get this thing to turn off or try some weird work around.

Apple will not help you get into a device.

Without a backup I’m afraid those photos may be lost. Unless she enabled using iCloud for photos. If so they may be there, or may not. Stuff can be stored on the cloud - but it’s really meant to be a ‘keep info in sync’ not a permanent storage solution.
